The windseers listen to the winds of Winds and glean wisdom from them. The winds are produced by the moans and yells of the dead who make up the White Road. The famed windseers recognise the winds for what they are. Ideally, the experience of listening to the reverberating voices of the dead does not drive them completely insane.
The windseers held great influence before Winds became a trade hub. The last 10 windseers have been homeless and influential only over the destitute or superstitious. The militia keeps a sharp eye on them.
Before Winds became a trade hub, a line of windseers held great influence, claiming that the caves winds were omens that they alone could interpret. The title of windseer still exists, although the last ten or so have been homeless and have held sway only among the most destitute or superstitious. Naturally, the militia keeps a sharp eye on them.
Windseers
- Alceron, the current windseer, led the mob that burned Ulmo Targus, alleged necromancer, last year. Alceron collected the charcoal left by Ulmo’s body, which emits a potent aura. Few have seen Alceron, a former pupil of Severard’s, since the lynching.
- Anastasia, the Princess of Seers, regularly approaches adventurers in Winds. Alceron believes that she uses black magic and was not properly trained as a windseer, but she learned from a man who claimed to have been a windseer when that position carried great respect. She says that it is Alceron whose magic deviates from the windseers’ true practices. Anastasia communicates from the drow-ghosts of the White Road, who have told her that she could awaken the stretch of the White Road beneath Winds, crush the Council of the Calm and have the ghosts seize the town, at which point she will pretend to exorcise the ghosts and thus justify her position as supreme ruler. This willl return the profession of windseer to its traditional position of respect and influence.
- Anastasia uses a choker made by Toadvine (30.09) to communicate with the drow-ghosts.
