A cantrip is a simple spell. In Shuttered, they teach the Thousand Spells and One, although only in the High Tongue. Most Shuttered nobles are capable of producing a few cantrips.
- Jackalwere mages (51.17) cast a hex that makes its victims incapable of speaking or writing in anything other than gibberish.
- The Spellknight is the only one who can summon the Phantom Steed. He has polymorphed chickens into dragons.
- Wizards casting fireball was mentioned (Temple of the Labyrinth).
- Bogarus Bolger, no wizard, has a pin enchanted with a spell, Bogarus’ safe escape, that when triggered teleports the caster 1d100 x 10 feet in a random direction.
- Melda the Boneless casts the unstoppable thrust by contorting her body into a glyph.
- The Skibart halflings have many stones with light cast on them.
- The sleep spell interacts interestingly with a cat feather pillow.
- Summon monster spells are a favourite of Tehaar’s band.
- Identify spells have a material component - a 100 gp pearl.
- A darkness spell is triggered in 13.08 when a chest is opened.
- The ostrlich was created because a powerful spell to resurrect someone after death was applied to the wrong entity.
- The ever-winding worm is a spell, the material component of which is the most perfectly-formed worm to be found within a thirteen-day-old corpse. The worm delivers a very slow death.
- Severard’s spellbook includes Severard’s ferrous imperative, a ray that draws all magnetic things to the caster; and piquant premonition, which is cast over a meal as the caster cooks it. The mental reaction of those who eat it is then known to the caster.
- The Whispered Caress is a divine spell that causes the caster to grow shadowy, terrifying tentacles.
