When the elven court in the Kingswood split, the exiled renegades (most of the unseelie elves and some seelie elves) were led away by the Queen Sinister.
According to legend, when the Queen Sinister left the Bloodied King and his court she cursed the Shrouded Lands so that it now only rains once a year (described in With Morning Comes Mistfall).
Connections
- A tempest, a powerful elemental, was bound to a stone spire in the Singing Wastes in the hopes that it would provide rain, but it is under the thumb of the Queen Sinister.
- Those seelie elves who joined them quarrelled with the Queen, were abandoned in the Singing Wastes, and went on to found Zaal, the Sleeping City (they are now known as the white elves).
- When Grandfather Cactus joined others petitioning the Bloodied King for the return of the rains, he was granted the companionship of a nymph as a boon - though it is said that it was the Queen, and not the King, who banished the rains.
- The Bastard Prince is apparently the son of the Queen’s favourite daughter and the Bloodied King’s eldest son.
