Hobgoblins or ‘’’hobs’’’ lack whatever it is that binds goblins to oak trees (11.01) and their affinity for magic along with it, and tend be to lanky and misshapen when compared to their cousins, but are fearsomely strong.
Connections
- Jackalweres in the ruins beneath Hyfalls eat hobgoblin flesh and are mutated by it in unusual ways.
- Thad Breen (15.04) wrongfully blames the hobgoblins of 16.04 for the death of a farmhand.
Settlements
- Many live in the Hobgoblin Caves (16.04), and mostly mostly keep the peace with the humans that live south of here. They attend an annual market in which they trade their shroomwine and shoes, but during lean times they have been known to sneak down towards the lowland farms to rustle ostriches. They avoid killing humans, but it would only take one bloodthirsty band of adventurers to change that…
- Hobgoblins are the long-running inhabitants of Those Vexatious Caves (14.02), but have been forced out of each part of the cave system in turn by new arrivals. They might leave for elsewhere in the Grey Mountains if they exhaust their supply of shroom wine.
- Hobgoblin urchins in Shuttered travel on and below the streets of Shuttered selling fish jerky, roast peanuts, sausages and grilled pigeon breast onna stick, often getting into trouble and dabbling in petty theft. Few people pay them much mind so those who do, like Jarvis of The Mud Platter, can learn a lot.
- Goblin Town is a small community of hobgoblins in the ruins beneath Hyfalls. The Duke of Thring, before he became duke by marrying the Lady of Thring, had hired a band of hobgoblin spelunkers, but they broke the contract and stayed in the ruins. They say they deal fairly with all, and will direct treasure hunters towards dangerous but lucrative parts of the ruins in exchange for a cut of the loot.
