The gharsang are the wooden idols depicting the lords of the sky and the lords of the underworld that are venerated by the orcs. For two different takes on the lords of the sky, see 27.01 and 25.01.
The lords of the sky apparently give substantial boons to the orc race, including a rain of gold. The lords of the sky and of the underworld are represented as gharsang - hideous leering faces carved from wood. The orcs believe that the idols scare off evil spirits, strip away illusions and guard orcish lands against enchantment. Gruumsch is chief of the lords of the underworld.
