The ivory gargoyles of Sosaria are carved into fanciful shapes and enchanted with a semblance of life. Whenever these ivory carvings see anyone committing any crime (littering for example) they come to life and attack them mercilessly. The gargoyles are small and their limbs are not especially strong but Imorcar the Many placed enchantments on them that protect them from most forms of harm. In addition, their touch draws memories from the minds of those they strike.
The gharsang, leering faces carved into trees, are described as gargoyles, but there is no suggestion that they are animate.
The Birls breathed life into wooden gargoyles. The gargoyles resisted steel but were vulnerable to wood, which is why the Knights of the Cudgel preferred that weapon.
Lars commands gargoyles carved by a Birl for Iraine the Suitor. He may command other varieties as well. Their wounds leave long, aggravating splinters.
