Types
- The Lochgates are a clan of werebears.
- The nordanbjorn are talking bears, ruled by the bjornajarl Thorek Ironhide. Their homeland is the Marche of the Winterjarl.
- Drop bears
- The knights of Castle Karandur (13.17) ride bears. The Lady of Karandur traces her line back to a bear who asked the Pacharia to be transformed into a human woman. She displays a bearskin above her hearth which she claims was her ancestor’s first skin.
- Cave bears

- One-Eyed Kevanjr is an old bear-bard who can recite in their entirety seven sagas of seven days’ duration each. He defeated Arinlag Fivefish in a fight for Karsta Thoreksdottir’s love.
- Arinlag Fivefish is a bear-bard who lives in the Kingswood.
- Thorek Ironhide is bjornajarl of the nordanbjorn
- Karsta Thoreksdottir or Karsta the Slender is favourite daughter of Thorek. She has a child, which Arinlag and Kevanjr both claim as their own.
- The previous jarl’s body is frozen in ice and some hope that she is still alive (14.01)

- Dwarven monastics smear bear fat on their faces when they go on pilgrimage to Mount Scorshia (02.03).
